    Hullo all:
I have a 72 scamp with alot of rust around the rear window at the bottom corners and the flat part of the fender past the corners. My question to all of you lot is what is the best manner to repair? Find a donor car and utilise its corners, or shape some new steel? I'yard kinda new at the entire removal and replacement of steel. If the doner car is the way to get how much do i cutting out and if the new steel is the way exercise I have a professional do it. Now that ya kinda know what i'm looking at, whatsoever and all info would be appreciated.

    thanks

    kevin.

  2. Kevin, if areas are flat you lot can just cut out and use flat canvas metal to replace. If rusted areas are angled with patterns in them it would probably be all-time to cutting that area out of a donor car. Cut off more than y'all need from donor auto to be sure you lot have enough to supercede your rusted surface area. You can e'er trim slice down once y'all have it. Sometimes if rust is near a factory seam, it may be amend to go to the seam with replacement metal. You lot should take some pics and post them here. There are quite a few body people hither that can ameliorate advise you if they can run into whats needed. Mike

Those are going to hard spots to fabricate. Your all-time bet is to fins a donor machine to cut the metal from. Look for a car that doesnt have a Vinyl acme otherwise you may end upward with more of the aforementioned.
  5. I concord with Adam. Take your grinder and clean surface area around rust to be certain where it ends, then cutting a couple of inches larger from donor automobile so taking your fourth dimension, trim new slice to fit properly and adhere it. Do you lot have a welder and welding skills?

yeah i do take a mig, hobart handler 120 with gas and in my own mind i'm the best welder in the earth but nigh people, especially the blind, say otherwise. And hither is the funny thing I have a donor car exterior just it is in ameliorate shape than the one i'm working on. I bought it as a donor just?

yea that it is but it's a lot easier to ready less than more. The ane affair that has me wanting to fix the i with most of the rust is that I accept every piece of documentaion that was always generated with the auto, including the white newspaper pull a fast one on that came on the original keys which i accept and still outset the machine to this solar day. I take a footling notation pad from 1972 where the original owner started taking notes and even documented her kickoff tank of gas at 35 cents a gallon. I have everything in between as well.

Heres the pics of the donor motorcar

    Hmmmmm decisions decions.

and yes as of last twelvemonth I believe they still accept the swap see, I live simply east of the fairgrounds behind gundies
  11. Kevin, you should thoroughly check bodies on both cars for rust and impairment. Floors, lower doors, fenders, quarters, sub-frames, trunk, etc., anywhere and everywhere. Then compare drivetrains, interiors, options, etc., and and then try to make a sensible decision as to which would be best to prepare upwardly. To tell you the truth, the donor auto you have looks to be in pretty practiced shape, from looking at the pics. Shame to have to chop it up. Like you said, decisions, decisions. Mike
  12. go cutting the pieces out of a donor car.. it will be alot easier that fashion because all the bends are alrerady there and the shape y'all need.....

Thats the style to practise information technology.

That Scamp looks pretty clean though. I would accept clean sail metal over paper work anytime.

  14. Bang-up pics abodyjoe. Exactly what he needs to see. Yea Adam, I would agree, unless automobile is a limited number, highly optioned rare model, I would definitely choose the best trunk over paperwork. JMO, MIke

thanks mike, valiant joe, adamr and abodyjoe it's what i needed to push button me over the edge. I also would've had to cut all the sheetmetal out of the body and movement it over to the project car and it was bugging me since the doner was in such skillful shape. I call back now I'll just move the interior over and whatever else needed and cut my losses. Once once again thanks guys
