DIY Three Ring Binder Decorations

We're getting ready for school at my house, and my daughter's middle school supply list called for five notebooks. For some reason, all I could find at my local stores in the size she needed were, in a word, boring. No patterns or glitter or anything fun. Also, the only color we could find was purple and a lone pink binder. I was ready to be done with school supply shopping, so we purchased those. Clearly we needed some three ring binder decorations. See, aren't these sad?

Well, if you know me, you know I'm not going to let my daughter go to school with boring notebooks. No way. So I came up with a simple way to add some personality, color, and pattern to her standard notebooks that might make class a bit more fun.

These three ring binder decorations are super easy to do. One of my favorite thing about this, is that there are so many options. Let's get started.

Supplies

12 x 12 scrapbook paper
scissors or exacto knife
ruler
self-stick labels
marker (I used gold, naturally)

Steps

Determine the height and width you will need. I cut mine at about 10.3 inches and took less than an inch off the top. This left me with the perfect size for the front and side of the binder. Easy peasy. I used my exacto knife and self healing board, but scissors and a ruler will work just fine. (I used a Rice Krispies box for my ruler!)

Take your gold marker and write the names of the subjects on the self-stick labels. I used two labels per binder. One I wrote the subject vertically, the other horizontal.

Place the horizontal label on the front sheet. Place the vertical label on the strip of scrapbook paper that will go on the spine. You may need to trim the edges to fit. I did, but it depends on your label.

Place the scrapbook paper in the notebook.
Admire your work.
